Calorex Low Operating PressureCALOREX EASES THE PRESSURE ON HEAT PUMP DESIGN
Pressure is easing on heat pump manufacturers that use the low pressure high temperature refrigerant R134a in their units to deliver domestic heating temperature requirements, according to world leader in heat pump technology, Calorex Heat Pumps. Tony Barnes, the company’s Sales Director, pointed out: “R134a refrigerant operates at significantly lower pressure than various alternative gases used in many units available in the UK.” “Calorex heat pumps are designed specifically for UK climatic conditions and achieve 650C flow temperatures at moderate operating pressures which place little or no strain on vital components in the heat pump unit.” Operating pressures vary under differing working circumstances but under typical UK climate conditions where a delivered water flow rate of 550C is needed, typical indicative pressures within the heat pump for the following refrigerant gases would be:- R134a / 215psig, R407c / 330psig and R410a / 500psig. Calorex units achieve exceptional performance figures because R134a refrigerant is designed to operate at vastly lower pressures than other refrigerant gases when delivering higher temperatures. Consequently the risk of catastrophic failure is virtually eliminated in Calorex heat pump units due to the complete design criteria used in this specification. In addition, the Calorex units have no need for electric immersion heater back up and are designed to operate comfortably in the middle of the operating envelope for R134a gas. None of the components in the heat pump unit are stressed which vastly reduces the risk of pressure related breakdown and subsequent unit failure. The use of this refrigerant can also prolong the operational life of the unit. Barnes added: “Calorex units are designed-for-purpose to deliver high temperatures in the UK climate with engineering excellence at their core so that they offer low maintenance, high efficiency, longevity and outstanding operating performance.” Calorex are a specialist heat pump manufacturer with a worldwide reputation for quality and engineering excellence, designing heat pumps specific to their operating specification and climate conditions. Based in Maldon, Essex, Calorex have been manufacturing heat pumps in the UK since 1977 and currently export to 43 countries around the world. |
