Calorex FIRST to Gain Microgeneration Approval

CALOREX Heat Pumps has taken the drive towards more energy-efficient heating of UK homes to another level after becoming the first manufacturer in the country to earn accreditation under the rigorous Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

Designed specifically for use in UK climatic conditions the first of the company’s extensive range of air source machines is the only heat pump in the UK entitled to bear the crucial BRE mark. This not only guarantees the integrity of the product but for the first time in the UK, gives qualifying purchasers the opportunity to benefit from energy efficiency grant funding for air source heat pump installations.

Operating up to 65°C and generating hot water without any direct electrical resistance back-up, Calorex air source heat pumps are already the product of choice for a significant percentage of new build and refurbishment property projects.

This Microgeneration Certification Scheme provides ongoing independent, third party assessment and approval of companies who wish to demonstrate their product meets and continues to meet stringent requirements. The Calorex air to water heat pump range was meticulously vetted ensuring minimum Coefficient of Performance (CoP) in accordance with EN 14511-3:2004 rating.

A delighted Calorex managing director Richard Carrington believes the ground breaking move adds to the distinguished curriculum vitae for the industry’s market leader that boasts an outstanding pedigree spanning more than three decades in this specialist sector.

“We are particularly pleased a scheme has been put in place that both encourages the choice of energy efficient heat pumps but also provides a credible certification scheme that ensures contractors can confidently choose products supplied with integrity that match their performance claims,” he says.

“It is particularly satisfying that Calorex, a British manufacturer, should be the first to earn this distinction further enabling our heat pumps to stand out from a quagmire of inferior products currently flooding the market – many from dubious overseas supply routes.

“We fully appreciate that the process is tough and we welcome the rigorous accreditation system which will create an environment where only quality reliable heat pumps will be sold to the public”.

Calorex is a privately-owned British company based in Maldon, Essex. The company employs about 150 people to design, manufacture and support its range of heat pump products that are exported to more than 40 countries.
